What is vaporwave?
Vaporwave grew up online around 2010 to 2012. Producers slowed down, looped and drenched in reverb old samples of smooth jazz, elevator music and 80s pop, and dressed it in a pastel, early-internet look: Windows-style desktops, palm trees, marble busts and Japanese text.
Chillwave came just before it, around 2009: hazy, synthy, nostalgic summer music. Purrple Cat sits somewhere between chillwave and lofi, with vaporwave’s night-city, screensaver-space mood.
